“A critique of current post-colonial theory/studies could unveil some important shortcomings and pitfalls in their theoretical structure, as well as intellectual historical locations and practices. It could be noted that post-colonial theory/ studies have been paying less attention to the colonial and post-colonial Western popular imaginary and its representations of the colonised nations/cultures. Instead, it has been focusing on the analysis of official colonial/post-colonial political discourses and on ‘high’ narratives of philosophy and literary canon. Post-colonial theory/studies have also not fully opened up yet to studying the impact of colonialism and post-colonial hegemonic relations on kinship structures, models of production (peasantry, agricultural, industrial), popular cultures, architecture, and native languages within the ex-colonised societies and during the post-independence era. Although post-colonial theory is a form of resistance, a critique can notice that it relatively marginalises the formative impact of the Third World decolonising processes and their implications on the products of Western intellectuals as well as on changing the cultural maps of European/western societies. One hitherto neglected prominent shortcoming within post-colonial theorisation is the impact of the Algerian decolonisation resistance on the construction of French postmodern thought, which is a central reference among others for the formation of post-colonial theory”.
